Dr. Gloria Ma is a scientist as well as an entrepreneur, known for her entrepreneurial leadership and executive management.
ENTREPRENEURIAL LEADERSHIP – Co-founder and CEO of XXsys Technologies; raised capital from start-up through IPO; transitioned technologies from sensor/NDE to infrastructure renewal in response to defense downturn in 1993. Procured government R&D contracts (defense conversion grants); validated technologies, and protected intellectual property rights of the technologies; guided product development concept, marketing research and product strategy; procured beta site participants for field validation of technologies. Obtained approval of XXsys’ innovation by several state Dept. of Transportation (DOT) – CA., WA, UT, NY, IL.
EXECUTIVE MANAGEMENT – Oversight of administrative, operational, financial, research and development activities of XXsys Technologies. Established strategic vision, corporate goals/objectives, policies and procedures. Managed and protected corporate assets. Selected competent senior executives and monitored performance with a view to assuring that the enterprise is provided with other competent managers. Report and communicated with the Board of Directors and Shareholders. By appointment of Mayor Dick Murphy of San Diego, served as Chairman of the Board for San Diego Data Processing Corporation (SDDPC) from 2001 to 2003. SDDPC is a non-profit corp. wholly-owned by the City of San Diego which provides Information Technology services to operate the many facets of the City’s operations – from Police to Garbage collection and is responsible for identifying and deployment of state-of-the-art IT innovation to enable e-Government for the City of San Diego.
CONSORTIUM BUILDING – Instrumental in the initiation & formation of the Advanced Composites Technology Transfer Bridge Infrastructure Renewal Consortium (ACTT/BIR) headquartered at UCSD, which received $30+ million in Defense Conversion R&D grants.
